Amalienborg

This Copenhagen landmark consists of four identical palaces and is the official residence of the Danish royal family. The quartet of castles, originally built in the mid-1700s for four noble families, feature classical façades situated around an octagonal courtyard where one is likely to catch glimpse of the changing of the guard at midday. Standing here, at the center of the Palace Square, is an equestrian statue of Amalienborg’s founder, King Frederik V, which faces Frederik’s Church, a domed rococo structure that opened to the public in 1894.
