Rosenborg Castle

Another project of King Christian IV was Rosenborg Castle. Though first designed as a summer pleasure palace—to replace the old-fashioned medieval Copenhagen residence—it quickly became His Majesty’s favorite dwelling. Around 1710, royalty departed here, as well, designating the location as home of the royal collections.
