Through her blog, French Countryside Companion, Shannon Grochowski invites readers into the gracious lifestyle she shares with her husband, Wlady, as they spend part of the year in his home country of France. When Victoria visited the Grochowskis’ riverside abode in Mailly-le-Château, Bourgogne, Shannon prepared a dessert for the occasion that evokes memories of finding unforgettable confections at a farmer’s market south of the City of Light. “They were not as fancy as the pâtisserie desserts along the Right Bank in Paris,” she recalls, “but they were made with as much love and flavor. We bought a strawberry charlotte, tied with a red satin ribbon, and I have reflected on its ethereal consistency since. I created this Strawberry Rose Charlotte to remember that glorious day.”
