In identifying genuine antiques, one common test is the “ring of fire.” When held up to natural light, milk glass dating prior to the 1950s is said to glow pink, green, or gold around its edges due to the use of iridized salts in its formula. Collectors can find relatively inexpensive pieces at antiques stores or online but are advised to focus their assemblage on a specific maker, color, era, or pattern.
