Designed by famed architect Stanford White for silver heiress Theresa Fair Oelrichs, Rosecliff was modeled after Grand Trianon, the garden retreat at Versailles in France. The cliffside estate was originally owned by historian George Bancroft, an amateur horticulturalist who filled the property with thousands of rose bushes, hence the name.
