Joan of Arc: The Heroine of France

Dark metal statue of Joan of Arc on horseback. Many renditions of Joan’s appearance are found in artwork and film. The real woman is described as possessing short, dark hair and standing at average height. Joan opted to wear military clothes, a banner, and sword into battle. Her armor either was destroyed or disappeared over time, and, reportedly, the king of England ordered any relics related to Joan to be destroyed. According to traditional fifteenth-century dress of the time, her uniform may have consisted of a cuirass, a breastplate, a harness for legs and arms, metal gloves, and a visored helmet.
