For centuries, history’s eyes focused on the seemingly unlikeliest of heroes: the Maid of Orléans, whose story would be told in awed voices for years. This courageous female warrior rallied soldiers and Prince Charles VII of the House of Valois to victory against their British foes. Her story unfolds in the verdant farmland of northeastern France, where heavenly beings guided her with a valorous purpose on the battlefield of the Hundred Years’ War. Though a layer of mystery envelops her legend, most agree the young girl possessed magnanimous faith and bravery. Here, we take a look into one of the most famous figures of bygone days.
