Dunrobin’s formal Victorian gardens are another of Sir Charles Barry’s contributions. Inspired by the precise parterres at the Palace of Versailles, his designs are virtually unchanged since they were originally laid out in 1850, though present-day gardeners continue to introduce new plants. More recent additions include avenues of whitebeam and Tuscan laurel trees. Visitors to Dunrobin Castle will be delighted to see fresh-clipped flowers from the gardens in the floral arrangements present throughout the great house, adding an extra layer of loveliness to the interiors of this remarkably maintained historical treasure
