Madame Dupin
Eventually royal ownership at Chenonceau ceased, and in a full-circle moment, almost as if in a nod to the days of the Bohiers, an ennobled financier became master of the château. Claude Dupin and his wife acquired the property in the early eighteenth century and lavished the place with their love of the finer things. The garden, moats, and main avenue were redone, and the interior was once again properly furnished—including removing Louise’s funeral décor and the attic convent installed by Madame de Mercœur. One of the two galleries was also changed, being divided into suites for guests.
