Storied LibrariesTHE SORBONNE—Paris, France

Considered to be the greatest accomplishment of noted French architect Henri Paul Nénot, the Bibliothéque Interuniversitaire de la Sorbornne is breathtaking in its ethereal beauty. The Saint-Jacques Reading Room’s mint green and cream walls give way to a paneled ceiling trimmed in gold, while hand-painted frescoes lend an art-gallery feel to the academic space.
