Belle Meade
The splendid furnishings that grace the rooms of Belle Meade Plantation, once the country’s largest thoroughbred farm, tell the story of the opulent lifestyle the John Harding family enjoyed throughout the nineteenth century. The serene façade of the Greek-Revival antebellum mansion belies the storm of battle that took place in the front yard during the Civil War. Restoration efforts based on Harding family photographs and paint analysis resulted in pink paint for the dining room walls, as well as furniture placement and carpet patterns that replicate the original décor.
