Midwinter Musings from Jenny Bohannon

Shelves hold stacks of blue-and-white transferware at Tallwood Country House.

Midwinter has something of a reputation as that bleak period after the festivities of Christmas when there are seemingly endless winter months left to endure and nothing to truly look forward to until spring—that is, unless you’re a child or child-at-heart praying for snow. Upon reflection, however, there is joy to be found in this season as we cozy up inside our homes, surrounded by the people and (hopefully) things we love. With no means of escape and nature asleep outside, I find myself especially grateful for the beauty within my home and especially irritated by those things I’ve tired of; thus, for our household, this is often a season of organizing, re-organizing, and donating.
