My 100 Year Old Home: Tips for Creating Welcoming Interiors

Leslie Saeta has a designated nook for arranging flowers that she refreshes around the home each week. Colorful blooms of orange, pink, and purple are stacked on the potting bench ready to be placed in a tall metal can.Pretty petals

It’s no secret that fresh flowers satisfy multiple senses, pleasing the eye while emitting the loveliest fragrances. Leslie uses clippings from her garden, supplemented by selections from the local flower market and even faux blossoms to fashion fresh arrangements on a weekly basis.

To maintain what can turn into a messy craft, she’s turned a corner of the renovated carriage house on her property into a flower workstation. Stacked on shelves under the potting bench are her collections of vessels. Old crocks, vintage cheese moulds, and glass jars are some of Leslie’s preferred containers to use in replacement of a traditional vase. “Thinking outside of the vase for your arrangement can lead to endless possibilities,” she says.
