The art of collecting
Each light-filled room of Kristie’s dwelling glistens with splendor. She lives by the mantra that gilding never goes out of style—a sentiment that’s evident by her growing collection of Louis XVI mirrors and light fixtures.
Although it’s tempting to rush when renovating a space, or moving into one’s dream abode, Kristie recommends slowly curating pieces that fit a homeowner’s needs. “Collect what you love and trust that it will all fit together like a puzzle,” she says. The designer typically searches for one knockout piece per room—at least to start!
Often, the simplest adornments become the most loved, according to Kristie. “A room with beautiful draperies and fresh flowers has a complete look; start with these, fill in the middle, it won’t take as long as you think!”
