Inspired by the past
With skilled ease, Kathryn hosts her loved ones at Chestnut Cottage throughout the year for holidays, soirées, and casual get-togethers. While to-do lists and arrangements could seem daunting to some, she embraces the creativity that comes with preparing sacred moments of celebration. This affable approach to entertaining—and her impeccable style—was learned from her mother, whose friends gathered weekly in Kathryn’s childhood home for friendly luncheons flowing with laughter, banter, and the “good dishes.” “Growing up in the 1950s, my mother and her friends entertained a lot. They didn’t have very expensive things, but what they owned, they certainly used! They didn’t keep it in china cabinets,” she says.
Is there a mouthwatering dish in your family cookbook? An antique silver pattern you adore? Perhaps there is a special melody that puts you at ease? Kathryn recommends drawing on the comforts of the past to create a cozy and comfortable environment for guests.
