Finding a sense of place
Kathryn Greeley felt an instant connection to Chestnut Cottage the moment she laid eyes on the shingled structure. In her newest book, The Collected Cottage, the interiors expert remembers crossing the threshold for the first time. “It was almost a spiritual attachment to this home,” she says, “I was drawn to this house, and it was only then I discovered the only other woman to ever live here was from my small hometown in Bryson City, North Carolina.” Nearby neighbors conveyed that the previous lady of the house adored the abode just as much as Kathryn did. “It was love at first sight for both of us!” she adds.
Kathryn believes entertaining in your home should allow guests to experience the unique heritage of the abode. Taking into consideration the structure’s history, a special architectural detail, or the green spaces that surround the property allows a homeowner to plan gatherings that highlight its greatest charms.
