Blue Reverie: Coastal Cottage Living in the East Hamptons

Washed with cool hues of cerulean and seafoam, as if the ocean itself swept across the canvas and left an array of maritime treasures in its wake, an East Coast charmer offers soothing spaces—both inside and out—for its occupants to unwind.

From the moment one steps across the threshold, life seems to slow, and boundaries between indoors and out blur into the blissful rhythm of beachside living.

To embrace the full potential of the cottage, he orchestrated a major renovation that included the addition of a soaring sunroom, primary suite, and a pool house crafted from a garage. Shaped by his artistic eye, the sun-drenched environs suggest a state of eternal summer and reflect the hues of sand-washed beaches, blue skies, and a favored collection of sea glass. “Greg is very focused and serene, and he wanted the house to reflect that,” Michael explains.

Outdoors, Michael’s gift for cultivating botanical beauty has transformed the small plot of land into a lush landscape offering a variety of spaces to linger. “Just as there are interior rooms in the home, there are ‘rooms’ in the garden,” says Michael. Tall privet hedges provide privacy, clipped boxwood and hydrangeas form elegant borders for a lawn punctuated by statuary and a shimmering pool, and a French fountain seems to float atop a profusion of emerald foliage. “I love the way the garden and the home work together,” he adds. Any visitor lucky enough to bask in such tranquil settings would certainly agree.
