
Mulled Cider begins with apple cider and simmers with a generous pour of maple syrup; slices of Honeycrisp apple and lemon; sprinkles of cardamom, cloves, allspice, and star anise; and cinnamon sticks.
Mulled Cider
Makes approximately 2 quarts
Ingredients
- 1 (50.7-ounce) bottle apple cider
- 2 cups water ÂĽ cup maple syrup
- 1 small Honeycrisp apple, sliced
- ½ medium lemon, sliced
- 2 teaspoons cardamom pods, crushed
- 1 teaspoon whole cloves
- 1 teaspoon allspice berries
- 2 star anise pods
- 1 cinnamon stick
- Garnish: cinnamon sticks, star anise pods, apple slices
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, combine apple cider, 2 cups water, maple syrup, apple slices, lemon slices, cardamom, cloves, allspice, star anise, and cinnamon stick. Cook over medium heat until simmering; cover and reduce heat to low.
- Gently simmer for 20 minutes. Strain cider through a fine-mesh sieve, discarding fruit and spices.
- Serve warm and garnish with cinnamon sticks, star anise pods, and apple slices, if desired.
