Mulled Cider

Unique glasses with quaint handles offer the perfect home for servings of mulled cider, with sticks of cinnamon, slices of apple, and star anise floating at the top.

Mulled Cider begins with apple cider and simmers with a generous pour of maple syrup; slices of Honeycrisp apple and lemon; sprinkles of cardamom, cloves, allspice, and star anise; and cinnamon sticks.

Mulled Cider
 
Makes approximately 2 quarts
Ingredients
  • 1 (50.7-ounce) bottle apple cider
  • 2 cups water ÂĽ cup maple syrup
  • 1 small Honeycrisp apple, sliced
  • ½ medium lemon, sliced
  • 2 teaspoons cardamom pods, crushed
  • 1 teaspoon whole cloves
  • 1 teaspoon allspice berries
  • 2 star anise pods
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • Garnish: cinnamon sticks, star anise pods, apple slices
Instructions
  1. In a medium saucepan, combine apple cider, 2 cups water, maple syrup, apple slices, lemon slices, cardamom, cloves, allspice, star anise, and cinnamon stick. Cook over medium heat until simmering; cover and reduce heat to low.
  2. Gently simmer for 20 minutes. Strain cider through a fine-mesh sieve, discarding fruit and spices.
  3. Serve warm and garnish with cinnamon sticks, star anise pods, and apple slices, if desired.
