With beginnings as a Middle Ages fortress, the tower of which still stands today, Villandry’s castle was erected by Jean Le Breton, finance minister to King Francis I. Over the centuries, the property passed hands to myriad owners, including the brother of Napoléon Bonaparte. However, it was Joachim Carvallo and his American wife, Ann Coleman, who restored the grounds to their former glory.
