Sweet Nostalgia at Shane Confectionery

Since its colonial origins, The City of Brotherly Love has been recognized as one of the nation’s foremost candy producers. Brothers Eric and Ryan Berley co-own Philadelphia’s longstanding Shane Confectionery.

Amidst the original hand-carved wooden display cases and Chippendale-style cabinetry, gleaming silver trays offer a tempting array of classic sweets, such as nonpareils, lollipops, and assorted caramels. Behind the retail space–decorated in a blue palette reminiscent of nearby Independence Hall–copper pots bubble with molten chocolate, infusing the fanciful workshop with the decadent aroma of freshly dipped bonbons.

  1. I remember when this story was first published by Victoria a few years ago and it really left an impression on me ! I not only love chocolate and sweets, but really love the old-fashioned candy stores which are basically gone for good.

Seeing the interior of this shop and all the wonderful handmade items reminds me of craftsmanship, passion, and creativity ! Did I mention how utterly delicious every item looks? As much as I wish I was nearer to this store, it’s probably a good thing that it’s not. !! LOL

    God bless !
