
The use of terracing and architectural features—statuary, staircases, and balustrades among them—characterize Italian gardens. Some of Georges’s own sculptures, pictured above, remain in place.

A greenhouse, such as the one shown above, offers a dedicated space for nurturing seedlings and can provide much-needed shelter during periods of extreme weather.

Above: A row of tall, multicolored blooms against a wall creates a lovely line of sight that leads the eye into the distance. Carefully selecting varieties to plant together can improve the health and overall appearance of the bed.
