Eight rooms in the neoclassical-style complex are devoted to the museum, which houses thousands of examples of Empire-period art, archival papers, and personal effects belonging to the duchess, such as her watercolor case, writing implements, and letters. The grand ballroom features gold- and silver-embroidered ball gowns; in the center stands Marie Louise’s gilded corbeille de marriage, a traditional—and in Napoleon’s case, extravagant—piece of furniture, bestowed by a French groom upon his bride.
