Victoria: Please introduce yourself and Traci Connell Interiors.
Traci Connell: I am Traci Connell, Principal Designer and Owner at Traci Connell Interiors. We specialize in turnkey, high-end residential projects, but our differentiator is that we provide luxury interior design with the practicality of everyday living and working, an aesthetic that I call Ease of Glamour.
Q: Could you share your design philosophy?
A: When we create a space, we make sure it has not only the most beautiful but also the most durable upholstery, countertops, floors, and more. For example, we use scrubbable paints, pet-shield carpeting, Crypton fabrics, scratch-resistant finishes, anti-microbial sinks, and many more products that provide luxe living that lasts. Having an Ease of Glamour mindset can come at any stage of life. We like to say that the easiest living is when you feel most comfortable in your own home. It is our utmost priority to customize a space effortlessly into a lasting dwelling.
Q: What is currently inspiring you?
A: I have a passion for well-edited and clean interiors, which is balanced by my skill of delivering luxurious spaces that incorporate stylish durability. Our goal is to create magazine-worthy rooms that hold up to life’s little messes … sticky fingers or spilled red wine.
Q: What is important to you when developing a design for a new client?
A: A careful and skilled design plan requires a lot of heavy lifting at the beginning, where we are collaborating and creating the vision. It is crucial to develop a scaled design plan with elevations and space allocations in order to paint the picture of my vision for a client. It’s definitely a process, but worth the extra time and effort to get the proportions of furniture correct the first time. I always tell my clients: “People notice what’s wrong before they notice what’s right.”
From there, we source the right furnishings and build products that combine form and function, specifically for their lifestyle. Then the ordering process begins. I remind them that we are in their circle of support so they can get back to doing what they do best—their 9-to-5 and spending time with family.
Q: Is there a memorable project you have worked on that stands out for you?
A: I have been lucky to complete many upscale bachelor pads. The guys seem surprisingly good about stepping out of the design box!
Q: What is your number one piece of design advice for homeowners?
A: Bigger is better—and less of it.
