While the history of this English estate extends back several centuries, potentially including a manor on the premises as early as 1086, it was in 1923 that the current household took possession and the gardens first came into existence. Elizabeth and Harold Bryant purchased the stone residence and 90 acres of surrounding farmland, adding onto the seventeenth-century building and laying the foundations for the garden.
