“Looking like a shepherdess—the way wealthy French royals imagined sheep-herding ladies looked—was all the rage in eighteenth-century France,” explains Christine, “which was why Marie Antoinette built a faux farm, Hameau de la Reine, on the grounds of Versailles.” Christine fabricated this dress and hat, including all the floral embroidery, based on actual garments found in various museums and private collections.
