During this celebratory time in the 1700s, feasts were varied and plentiful. Nearly every family who was financially able opened their home for a dinnertime gathering. A beautifully decorated table was the focal point of every feast, and hostesses vied for social status through their dessert tables, presented as the grand culmination of a dinner party.
