“When visiting my husband’s parents’ country house south of Paris many years ago, we walked to a farmers’ market the first day to stock the pantry and larder,” says Shannon Grochowski. “As I walked through the market stalls, I noticed an unusual-looking stand. It looked like an old-fashioned camper with open windows and a counter on one side. It was stocked with desserts. They were not as fancy as the pâtisserie desserts along the Right Bank in Paris, but they were made with as much love and flavor. We bought a strawberry charlotte, tied with a red satin ribbon, and I have reflected on its ethereal consistency since. I created this Strawberry Rose Charlotte to remember that glorious day.”
