One of French Market Collection’s earliest projects was birthed when Peggy studied fabrics in Europe in the late 1980s. There, she became fascinated with the idea of developing her own line of Aubusson rugs. This type of floor covering, which historically was handwoven in the eponymous French village, was typically of grandiose size and primarily crafted for use in noble residences. However, the tapestry technique for which the region became known was eventually so widely adopted that the word Aubusson now is synonymous with any flat-woven French carpet. Though the style was popularized in the eighteenth century, Peggy declares that the task of fabricating these classic treasures is becoming a lost art, making this Aubusson cushion on the brand’s Lisette Stool, above, quite special indeed.
