Since the summer of 1984, thousands of excursionists have boarded the steam-powered train at Fort William, located along the shores of Lock Linnhe, in the shadows of Ben Nevis, the United Kingdom’s tallest mountain. The steam locomotive–hauled Jacobite brings riders to a lunchtime stopover in Mallaig, a busy fishing port in the Lochaber area.

Upon arriving in Mallaig, where quaint shops line the streets, passengers disembark for an outing that includes a sampling of traditional Scottish fare, such as smoked salmon and Angus beef, and the scouting of local wares from retailers like The Highland Soap Company and the House of Clan Jamfrie.
