In 1920, Mildred and Robert Woods Bliss purchased a fifty-three-acre property known as Dumbarton Oaks, which occupies the highest point in Georgetown. Mildred collaborated with renowned landscape architect Beatrix Farrand over a thirty-year period to turn the neglected grounds into stunning gardens.
