CREPE PAPER BASKETS

Supplies

Crepe paper • Sewing machine • Thread • 2-inch-diameter paper nut cups • Wired trim or chenille stems for handles • White tacky glue • Shredded wood fiber basket filler and candies or favors

Instructions

Cut a strip of crepe paper about 3 inches wide by 1 yard long. Using a sewing machine, sew a basting stitch down the length of the crepe paper, about 1 inch away from the edge. The paper should bunch up as you sew, creating a ruffle effect. Once you’ve finished sewing, you may wish to gather up the ruffle even more, so that its length matches the perimeter of the paper nut cup to be used. Shape a handle from wired trim or a chenille stem and attach it to the nut cup. Adhere the crepe paper ruffle around the perimeter of the cup using sparing amounts of glue. Let the nut cup dry, then fill with basket filler and desired elements.
