
Notes of cinnamon, cardamom, and star anise mingle with culinary lavender in our decadent Chocolate Sipping Tea, an ode to the traditional beverage favored by General Tilney in Northanger Abbey.
Chocolate Sipping Tea
Makes approximately 8 cups
Ingredients
- 8 cups water
- ½ cup cocoa nibs
- 3 medium cinnamon sticks
- ½ teaspoon cardamom seeds
- ½ teaspoon culinary lavender
- 2 whole star anise
- 1 cup whole milk
- ÂĽ cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- Garnish: culinary lavender
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, combine 8 cups water, cocoa nibs, cinnamon sticks, cardamom seeds, lavender, and star anise. Bring to a boil over high heat; reduce heat, cover, and simmer over low heat for about 25 minutes.
- Stir in milk, sugar, and vanilla extract, stirring until sugar is dissolved, about 1 minute. Remove from heat. Strain mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a pitcher; discard solids. Serve immediately. Garnish with culinary lavender, if desired.
